Tips on Flying Like a Pro-Part 1

Flying can be stressful. Getting to the airport on time, praying that you remembered to pack all that you need, different time zones, long layovers, and crowded airport, all this can be stressful. There are steps that can help you feel relaxed and ready to do whatever awaits you at your destination.

In case you are here, for the first time, and don't know who we are. We are Independent Travel Consultants, we provide travel services, tips and advice and gifts to meet your gift-giving needs. Feel Free to browse our site.

Flight Tips

Book your first flight of the day. There is less chance that you would face delays, since the planes are already at the airport. Bring disinfecting wipes to wipe down the seat, tray and arm rest, especially when flying with children, they tend to put their hands in their mouth, rub their eyes. Have a clean surface area for their snacks on the flight and cleaning their hands and your's is good practice

Flying with only carry-on luggage when ever possible. This would apply to business travelers or people who are traveling alone. Tip: There's no chance of your bag getting lost and you don't have to wait around after you land.

Do not book your connecting flight that gives you less than an hour between flights especially when traveling international. Tip: Having a longer layover is better than missing your connection and being stranded at the airport for the next flight.

Arrive early to avoid unnecessary stress. If your airline gives you the option to check-in and pay for your luggage online, this can save you time, extra money and stress. Signup to TSA Precheck

Nervous Flyers

Make friends on the plane. I do, I explain that I am nervous and this can create conversation with the person next to you. It's a good distraction for you. Listens to music. It can help calm you down as well as put you to sleep too.

Air sickness. Use ginger. If you are prone to motion sickness, drink ginger ale or chew on ginger to soothe your stomach. Check with your medical professional for over the counter medication. Drink water. Make sure you are hydrated and avoid alcoholic beverage or coffee. Remember to breathe, take deep breaths this helps to relax your muscles.

Practical Travel Tips & Advice

Practical Travel Advice

Pack Less

Travelling with just your hand luggage should be your goal. Do you need 10 sets of shirts, 5 pairs of jeans, 10 dresses? Okay, so I am exaggerating. Do you know if you take less you travel cheaper?

In case you are here for the first time, and you don't know who we are. We are Independent Travel Franchise, with Cruise Planners. Your land and cruise experts.

Benefits of Taking Less

1. Travel cheaper
2. No check-in luggage nor fees
3. Travel faster (no waiting for luggage)
4. Travel easier (no luggage to lug around)

Never Wear Flip Flop or Open Toes Sandals

Never wear sandals or flip flop on board a plane. In case of an emergency, its always best to have a good sturdy shoes ( e.g. sneakers) this will protect your feet from heat or any broken objects.

Learn a Few Words

Learn a few local language and use them, locals tend to warm up to you when you use their language to communicate with them. Google Translate is a helpful tool. (Go to the Google Play store and download the app)

Bring Head phones
For long flights, invest in a good quality noise cancelling headphones. You can tune out noisy kids, loud chatter and loud snoring passengers next to you. I recommend to stay alert for any information that the captain or flight attendant may communicate, never be totally unaware of what is going on around you.

Look Back

When leaving any area be it a chair, cafe, plane, taxi, always turn around and make sure you didn't leave anything behind.

Get Travel Insurance

Always take travel insurance ( it's an added cost) but there is always the possibility that things can go wrong, so be prepared.

Slow Down

Traveling is a journey that should be fun. Travel slowly and you can discover much more. Don't just try to get to your destination, look around, take in your surrounding, relax and live in the moment.

Travel Itch

If you have the itch to travel, just go travelling or even to see one particular place, start saving and just do it! Hey don't forget to get in touch with us, we help people experience the world.

Summer Travel Tips-Traveling With Kids

It's summer time! Kid's are home from school, perfect time to travel on a well deserved dream family vacation. You planned your vacation to the lake/beach/cruise.

Traveling with kids can be a challenge especially if you haven't done it in awhile, but you can survive the experience (without pulling your hair out) and make it an enjoyable and memorable one for everyone involved.

 Keep the Kids Entertained

Depending on the age, its important to bring along snacks, card games and other activities especially in case of any delayed or long flights. As you walk through the airport look for funny, random things to look around the airport.

Make full use of your carry-on bags, besides the necessary items like hand sanitizer, change of clothes, make use of every space of your bag that you can pull out to keep your kids attention and keep them occupied for the duration of your trip.

Don't forget the tech-savvy kids, to help keep them happy with tablets, portable video games, and your smartphone. Check the Google Play Store for games that would be appealing to your kids. Allow them the opportunity to add one or two things that they want to be able to use.

Put It on Paper (Teenagers)

Have your teenage kids write their own experience. It's a fun way to write their thoughts and experience to keep their creative thoughts going as they travel, as the saying goes, time fly's when you are having fun, writing. This is a cool way to have them involved and entertained as well as they can share it with their friends when they return to school.

Airport Fun Amenities

Depending on which airport you are flying out off, you might find cool, activities, exhibits to explore. So, areas like lounges, televisions, clubs, museums. Included is a list of airports that have amenities that whenever you are traveling you can make use off.

5 Stress Free Tips For Air Travel

Travel can make you lose your mind, but it don't have to be.

Here's 5 tips to keep your next flight stress free and fly like a pro.

In case you are here for the first time, and you don't know who we are. We are a Travel Franchise with Cruise Planner and American Express.

Travel like a pro: 1. Join the Airline Frequent Flyer program. Here's why. They are free to join. Customers who are part of (FFP) Frequent Flyers Program often are given preference over passengers who aren't part of the program and you are less likely to get 'bump' to another flight. It's worth getting the chance to get some special treatment.

Top 5 Best Airline Rewards Programs. We will provide more details in another post. Additional info: Click here
  • Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
  • Delta Sky Miles
  • JetBlue, TrueBlue
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards
  • United Mileage Plus
2. Avoid waiting in line if your flight get canceled. Why?

Everyone from your flight will be joining the line as well, and you are likely be the 100th person assisted, so grab your phone and call the airline. The agent on the phone will be able to re-book your flight and your odds are much better getting on the next flight, instead it's already filled by the time you get to the airline counter.

Of course, to make the call, you must have that airline customer service phone number in your phone before.

Tip: Have the airline customer service in your phone ready for dial.

3. Fly Carry On Only

Starting your trip without your luggage can be stressful and a real pain. If you are re-routed or delayed, flying with carry on, means that you still have your things with you wherever and whenever you arrive. Unfortunately, you are prohibited if you have checked in luggage.

Tip: To maintain flexibility with your flight plans, don't check in a bag.

Besides, you save a lot of money by not checking in your bag. Airline luggage fees have gotten very expensive. Most airline charge $25 to check in a bag just one way. That $50 you could easily pay for fun meals or an adventure on your trip.

4. Order Special Meal

Did you know most airlines offer special meals for passengers with dietary restrictions? Yep! It's true. Most flight offer complimentary meal service. You can order meals tailored to your needs, whether its vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free etc.

5. Motion Sickness

Do you get motion sickness while flying? You're not alone. Me too! Do you get air pain while flying to? Yep! That's me.

In reference to motion sickness, is to sit by a window, I have found it to helpful. It is reported that a part of motion sickness happens when your brain can't visually connect what you are seeing with movement that your inner ear is sensing. Try sitting by a window, and enjoy the view, especially when landing, the view in the air is awesome.
